Cinema Beans: The Turin Horse

I think it's safe to say that Béla Tarr—the famed director behind Sátántangó and Weckmeister Harmonines—will probably remain relevant as long as film journals exist. And if that's the case, then Tarr's final film will remain an astonishing grim conclusion to such a monumental career. The final frame of The Turin Horse is about as hopeless as a film can conclude, rounding out a filmography of detached individuals imprisoned in Tarr's black-and-white cell.

MMI: The Avengers

If you look at Marvel’s long-term “Phase” plan, and also the sheer amount of material they have to work with (ALL of those super heroes, not to mention when they begin introducing NEW characters that are totally made for film), The Avengers will be relevant for years and years and years and years. Just take a second and think about what Marvel has done. If they stick with the continuity and continue expanding out, they’ll have created a filmscape that’s never existed before. For anyone who wants to watch Dr. Strange 3 and understand the long-term series of events, they’ll have to go back to The Avengers. (And they could go back to the rest of the Phase 1 movies, but I don’t think that’s totally necessary. But maybe even watching The Avengers won’t be necessary at that point either????? SPECULATION!!!)
