Cinema Beans: The Innkeepers
Honestly, horror films hardly ever *scare* me outside of the cliche jumps-out-at-you parts, which are really just cheap thrills. But there is one moment in The Innkeepers that had me clutching my seat, and that was when Claire and Luke attempt to reach the ghost bride. In that dark and dank basement, the scariest part happens off-screen, with Luke describing the ghosts' actions to Claire while we sit and listen. In my honest opinion: that's true horror.
MMI: Argo
I didn’t see anything this year that “scared me” in the sense that the tension in the movie was so much I couldn’t handle it. So. My pick is Argo because for years and years to come I will have the same conversation where people are like “Have you seen Argoooooo! It’s so good!” And I’ll have to be like... “Sigh...” Either I suffer the slings and arrows of people saying a not so good movie is good, or I get into an argument where if I win I ruin a movie for someone (one that had made that person happy) and if I lose...well, I won’t lose. But if they refuse to accept my points, then it’s just an argument and what good is that? So...yeah, Argo terrifies me because I’m going to have to explain why I hate it again and again and again, or else just give up my convincation, or else just suffer while people heap praise on it. Like The Artist.
